Canadian para-swimming team members named in advance of Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games

The country’s top para-swimmers have been nominated for the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games team.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee announced the nominations on March 23 morning at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough, where swimmers from the Pan and Parapan Am Games will be competing this summer. Chef de Mission Elisabeth Walker-Young announced the names of the 40 swimmers at the poolside ceremony.

The announcement follows the 2015 Can-Am Para-swimming Championships that ran this past weekend at the Scarborough facility.

Twenty-four men and 16 women were nominated in a team that includes 15 Paralympians including 19-time Paralympic medallist Benoit Huot, Aurelie Rivard and Adam Purdy.

“It was such an honour to announce the nominations for the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games swim team this morning,” Walker-Young said. “I know they will all be ready to swim fast and help our Canadian Parapan Am Team achieve our goal of finishing in the top three nations.”

Swimming Canada Para-swimming National Head Coach Craig McCord (Richmond, BC) will serve as head coach along with Para-swimming Performance Coach Vince Mikuska (Chilliwack, BC).

The Para-swimming team is the first of 14 Canadian teams to be nominated by the Canadian Paralympic Committee for the Parapan Am Games.
