Woman wanted after alleged attempted abduction of child in Toronto

Toronto police are searching for a suspect after the alleged attempted abduction of a child in the Yonge and Lawrence neighbourhood.

According to police, a 29-year-old woman holding a one-year-old child was approached by a woman asking for directions in the area of Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue at 3:49 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

After the woman asked for directions, she allegedly asked to hold the 29-year-old woman’s child and when she was refused attempted to grab the child and assaulted its mother before fleeing.

The suspect was described by police as approximately 40 years old and five-foot-seven with thick black curly hair. She wore a pink puffy jacket and carried a light-coloured purse.

Investigators released security images of the suspect and asked for the public’s help identifying her Tuesday, Dec. 5.
