Toronto's Westwood Middle School welcomes new Canadians

Westwood Middle School in East York will forever be a special place for 25 new Canadians.

On Monday morning, the local elementary school at 994 Carlaw Ave., just north of Mortimer Avenue, hosted a Canadian citizenship ceremony. 

Students took part in the special event creating artwork that promotes citizenship and highlights Canada, as well as singing a congratulatory song and Canada’s national anthem. 

One pupil also shared words of congratulations with the new Canadians.        

Judge Albert Wong officiated the ceremony, which also included messages of congratulations from trustee Jennifer Story and superintendent of education Lucy Gianotta.
