Man seriously injured in Scarborough auto shop fire

A man in his 40s was transported to a Toronto burn centre after a vehicle fire inside a single-storey auto repair garage in Scarborough’s Dorset Park neighbourhood.

The two-alarm blaze broke out at an address on Munham Gate, which is near Kennedy and Ellesmere roads, around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Initially, the fire was inside the main shop area but spread into the ceiling, District Fire Chief Stephan Powell told the Scarborough Mirror.

The victim, who is believed to be the owner of the business, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else was injured.

Three others who were inside the building managed to escape on their own.

Powell said at this time the origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation.
