TASTE OF LITTLE ITALY

The annual street fest celebrating the best of Little Italy promises to draw an estimated 250,000 people over three days of revelry. Starting 6 p.m. Friday, College Street will close completely between Bathurst and Shaw streets. Palmerston Boulevard, Clinton Street and Montrose Avenue are also closed as of 3 p.m. Friday.

TTC 506 streetcars will detour from College in both directions between Ossington Avenue and Bathurst Street. This also applies to the 306 service. Keep in mind buses will operate the 506 service as of Sunday due to long term road and overhead wire work.

All roads will re-open as of 3 a.m. Monday, but keep in mind College between Shaw and Havelock Street which will close until mid-October .

TTC—LINE 1: SHEPPARD WEST TO ST. GEORGE

If you guessed the TTC would close some of its subway system on one of June’s busiest weekends, congratulations you’re correct! It’s all for the greater good of testing the TTC’s Automatic Train Control system which promises to greatly improve subway performance when it debuts later this year.

Starting Saturday, if you want to get between the stations you’ll have the option of taking a shuttle bus. However, the replacement buses will only stop between Sheppard West (formerly Downsview) and Lawrence West due to lots of construction in the area. Instead, the TTC is boosting service on several east-west bus routes over the weekend, including 32 Eglinton West, 42 Lawrence West and the 512 St. Clair streetcar. And the rest of the subway system will run extra service to accommodate the plethora of events taking place this weekend.

Keep in mind Dupont and Glencairn stations are closed all weekend, and there are parking restrictions in the Bloor-Bathurst area. Wheel-Trans service can be arranged by speaking with any TTC employee.

Regular service resumes 6 a.m. Monday.
