Several cats die in fire at apartment in Toronto's Little Italy area

Several cats died in a two-alarm blaze in Little Italy early Sunday.

Fire crews were called to an apartment above a store on College Street, near Crawford Street, at 2:50 a.m. Feb. 26.

District Chief Stephan Powell said there was lots of smoke on the second floor of the building.

“There were no injuries reported other than some cats that perished,” he said. “We called animal control to come.”

Firefighters left the scene at 5:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire isn’t yet known.
