Scarborough East councillor wants more parking for Morningside Park

Parking spaces at Morningside Park are “no longer reflective of the park’s needs,” a Scarborough councillor says.

In a motion to be brought to a Toronto Parks and Environment Committee meeting Thursday, Nov. 17, Paul Ainslie asks for a study of options to increase the park’s parking capacity.

This includes “a partnership with the Toronto District School Board to allow Morningside Park patrons to park in the West Hill Collegiate parking lot” nearby, the Scarborough East councillor said.

At nearly 417 acres, Morningside is one of Toronto’s largest parks, and Ainslie said it’s used by growing numbers of skiers, nature lovers and others.

But walking into the park, especially in winter, can be difficult. Its lots only offer 318 spaces, and the park entrance can’t accommodate a transit loop, he said.
