Bloor and Bathurst landmark Honest Ed’s will continue a long-standing and much-beloved holiday tradition with a turkey and fruitcake giveaway on Sunday, Dec. 2.

The turkey giveaway began in 1987, when “Honest” Ed Mirvish decided to give back to the community by offering free turkeys on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tradition has continued and will now mark its 25th year with David Mirvish and holiday helpers giving out 12,000 pounds of free turkey along with fruitcakes.

The annual event brings a huge crowd to the store, with many standing out in the cold for hours waiting in line for their free festive food.

The Honest Ed’s turkey giveaway will take place outside Honest Ed’s, 581 Bloor St. W., at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.
