uReport: Scouts to go door-to-door selling popcorn in Canada

Community Oct 13, 2017 Parkdale Villager

Local Scouts will be popping up – literally – throughout the month of October for the annual Scout Popcorn fundraiser to help support their next adventure. Through selling Scout Popcorn, Scouts learn many valuable life and business skills such as marketing, strategy development and financial responsibility, and develop positive self-esteem and confidence.

The annual fundraiser provides a platform for Scouting youth to earn scholarship money to support their post-secondary goals. Sales also support Scouts Canada’s No One Left Behind program; a program that helps eliminate barriers for participation for more than 3,000 Canadian youths from low-income families.

The program also offers the option to gift Scout Popcorn to Canada’s men and women in uniform. Since 2011, more than $900,000 worth of popcorn has been purchased for Canada’s military personnel at Canadian Forces bases in Canada and abroad.

Look out for local Scouts selling popcorn door-to-door during the month of October or contact 416-490-6364 to find a group. Visit www.scoutpopcorn.ca for more details.

Adventure, skills development, leadership, first time experiences and friendship are some of the many exciting opportunities for youth involved in Scouting. From learning how to plan and lead a camping expedition, to rock climbing and rappelling, international travel and experiments in STEM, Scouts Canada offers youth a world of adventure.
