Community Sep 02, 2016 Beach Mirror

Community members are invited to attend a launch party for a 225-panel, 72 kW community-owned solar rooftop array at Kew Beach Junior Public School.

The celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kew Beach Junior Public School, 101 Kippendavie Ave. at Queen Street East.

Held in conjunction with Green Energy Doors Open, a province-wide showcase of sustainable energy projects organized by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, the event will include an eco-fair with green tech table presentations. A ribbon cutting and remarks are set for noon.

Representatives from Kew Beach Junior Public School, Beach Community Energy Cooperative, and Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, will be on hand to discuss the project, which in combination with the school’s existing solar installation will generate and inject into the local grid the equivalent of one-third of the school’s annual electricity use.

A number of local politicians will also be in attendance.
