The Junction may soon be home to a brand new Target store.

RioCan Real estate Investment Trusts announced at its annual meeting on June 8 that Target had signed on to be the main tenant at its St. Clair and Weston Road plaza, a retail construction project currently in development.

Target, a U.S. retail chain, acquired 220 Zellers stores earlier this year, and announced the first batch of the 105 store locations across Canada in May - six of them in Toronto.

The Junction location will be unique in that it is the first Target that will not be housed in a converted Zellers, but will be part of the two-storey retail project by RioCan.

Construction on the Junction retail project is slated to begin in 2011.
