Toronto's top young ballet dancers vie for scholarships this weekend

City Centre Mirror

Hundreds of aspiring ballet dancers from across the Toronto area are vying for a shot at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) regional semi-finals this weekend.

Between workshops, dance classes and competitions, the young dancers will be put through their paces in hopes of landing a scholarship at a prestigious dance school or with an established dance company. Overall, the YAGP offers $250,000 in scholarships throughout the year to deserving applicants.

The competitors are squaring off before a panel of talented judges, including Evan McKie, Diana White, Claire Baulieu and YAGP founders Larissa and Gennadi Saveliev from Friday, Feb. 10 through Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
