Fresh Fair slated for Albert Campbell Square on Saturday

A free concert is just the beginning at this year's Scarborough Fresh Fair.

The outdoor event this Saturday, Sept. 12, in Albert Campbell Square - near the Scarborough Centre Station - from noon to 9 p.m. is the continuation and finale for the YOUnited Neighbourhoods street festivals in areas such as Scarborough Village.

A score of young acts will be on stage, plus a Stand Out Showdown for performance slots at Nathan Phillips Square this month and selections of best beat makers ("local legends in the making!") with distinct new sounds.

There's a reprise of last year's Battle of the Barbers, challenging people to "cut or get cut" with nine of the city's best.

Graffiti canvasses, basketball shootout, a T-shirt design contest, drum circles and "rhythmic jam sessions" to dance to them and a hip-hop chess tournament with prizes for top players, round out the list of activities.
