Riverdale-based actor Jesse Bond couldn't be more excited about his latest role in The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 2 he'll become a drug dealer from Belfast, Ireland suspended upside down from his ankles and tortured by a paramilitary terrorist.

"When I saw the script I knew I just had to get this part," enthused Bond, en route to final rehearsals for the award-winning black comedy, which is being produced by North Bay-based Rep21.

"It's going to be crazy. I just hope I don't pass out as the blood rushes to my head."

Bond, who played the role of Gavin for two seasons on the television show Jeff Ltd. and recently had a role in the Gemini-award winning drama Flashpoint, is one of the production's three new Toronto cast members.

Always into theatre, Bond moved to Toronto from St. Catherine's about 15 years ago to pursue his passion for acting and has since been involved in numerous independent films, theatre productions and even commercials.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore, a story of political terrorism, by Martin McDonagh is set in Northern Ireland in 1993.

The play is about an Irish Liberation Army enforcer's quest to find out who killed his beloved cat, Wee Thomas, following a stint of torture and bombing in Northern Ireland.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore, which Bond calls a "bizarre, dark humour mixed with satire and violence", will be staged in Toronto from Dec. 2 to 12 at the Berkeley Street Theatre Downstairs, 26 Berkeley St.

Tickets are $20 and can be obtained by visiting www.canstage.com or by calling the box office at 416-368-3110.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore will run Monday to Saturday at 8 p.m. and Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. Opening night is Thursday, Dec. 3.
