The Orpheus Choir of Toronto will ring in its 45th season with a spine-chilling blend of musical and movie magic.
The choir will perform choral accompaniment at its screening of the 1923 silent movie classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The film, which grossed a then-staggering $3 million at the box office offers up Lon Chaney as Quasimodo in an adaptation of the well-loved Victor Hugo novel of the same name. The Orpheus Choir will perform a selection of works selected to complement the silent film, including pieces by French masters such as Vierne, Poulenc and Gounod as well as works by Bach, Brahms and others. The classic gothic film is an ideal selection through which the choir can ring in its new season, given that the performance will take place the evening before Halloween.Orpheus Cinema: The Hunchback of Notre Dame will take place Friday, Oct. 30, 7:30 p.m., at Eglinton St. George's United Church, 35 Lytton Boulevard.
