The Maple Leaf Social Club is cooking up a night of Haggis, dinner, bag pipes and dancing as it celebrates the 253rd anniversary of the birth of Scottish poet Robert Burns.

The annual dinner will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21. at the Rizzo Banquet Halls at 1941 Albion Rd.

John Frazer is one of the co-ordinators of the event.

"The Irish have their St. Patrick's Day, the Greeks have their own heritage; we wanted to celebrate Robert Burns in the same way. Through this dinner and dance, we put him on the pedestal once a year and celebrate his works and our heritage," he said.

According to organizers, 500 people are expected to attend the event which makes it the largest Robbie Burns' dinner in Ontario.

Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the address to the Haggis in Gaelic and a formal dinner,
