Artist's work displays Thirteen Neighbourhoods

Arts builds social and economic inclusion in underserved neighbourhoods

Artist Yasmine Louis displays her art, titled, Thirteen neighbourhoods, at the Cedar Ridge Creative Centre Sunday. Her work is part of Celebrate 27 Arts Fest, which raises awareness of the diverse programs and services offered by local artists, local arts organizations and the city. Louis' work is on display until April 28 at Cedar Ridge Gallery, which is at 225 Confederation Dr.

Celebrate 27 Arts Fest (C27) promotes Toronto's vibrant cultural and community arts landscape in neighbourhoods across the city and raises awareness of the diverse programs and services offered by local artists, local arts organizations and the city. Some local highlights include:

What: Jumblies Theatre and Raucous Caucus: Music Creation and Community Arts

When: Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m.

Where: Cedar Ridge Creative Centre, 225 Confederation Dr.

Presentations, workshops, dinner and a concert, with musicians and composers, including Juliet Palmer, Martin van de Ven, Adam Scime, Eric Schwindt, the Parkdale Singers and others. Registration required. Admission fee with sliding scale. Contact info@jumbliestheatre.org or 416-203-8428.

 

What: Spring Fever: Scarborough Arts Members' Exhibition

When: until April 28

Where: The Bluffs Gallery, 1859 Kingston Rd.

Featuring artwork and crafts from Scarborough Arts members that embody the spirit of springtime, with a variety of pieces that reflect energy, renewal and fresh beginnings. Gallery hours: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 416-698-7322.


What: Piece by Piece C27 Mural

Where: Scarborough Village

Scarborough Village youth are invited to take part in the Piece by Piece C27 Mural. Toronto Cultural Services, Arts Services, Mural Routes and Action for Neighbourhood Change present a series of mural workshops where youth are invited to celebrate their creativity by making a piece of this collaborative mural. What: Twenty Seven: An exhibit featuring 27 works created by Scarborough youth

When: until April 27

Where: Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.

The Scarborough Civic Centre Gallery features 27 art pieces created by local youth in a variety of arts programs over the last year. Gallery hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Call 416-396-5230.

 

What: Voices of Bendale

When: April 26

Cost: $10

A cookbook that features recipes, reflections and photos from Bendale Business and Technical Institute students, staff and community members is launched by Toronto Cultural Services, Arts Services and the Toronto District School Board. To purchase a copy for $10 call Ann at 416-396-5230.
