Toronto skiers collect hardware at OFSAA alpine meet

A midtown Toronto private school led another strong Toronto presence at the provincial high school alpine skiing championships held at Blue Mountain, Feb. 28 and March 1.

Crescent School, at 2365 Bayview Ave. (just north of Lawrence Avenue) had an unprecedented sweep of both the level two boys slalom and giant slalom events.

In slalom, the order was Geoff Sugar, Duff Isberg and Nick McLeod; in giant slalom the order was Tommy Grand, Nick McLeod and Geoff Sugar. Not surprisingly, Crescent school was top team in both categories, as well.

Henno Einola of North Toronto Collegiate Institute, won gold in level-one boys giant slalom (with his school finishing first in the team category) and silver in slalom.

Another highlight was a double-podium performance by midtown Toronto private girls school Bishop Strachan School in level-two girls slalom with Maggie Ranson earning silver and Sasha Brodka bronze (the school took team honours in both events as well).

Competitors compete in two events (slalom and giant slalom) and are divided into male and female in two different levels (basically school-trained level one, and the more elite club trained level two).

Below, are all Toronto top-eight team finishes, followed by individual local medal winners.
