Last remaining Toronto teams bow out of Ontario Cup

A quiet year for Toronto in the annual Ontario Cup soccer playdowns just got quieter with the remaining four Toronto soccer teams ousted in semifinal action over the Aug. 28/29 weekend.

That means there will be no Toronto teams represented in the Ontario Cup championship round which runs over two weekends in mid-September in age categories from 11-year-olds and up.

Three youth teams from Toronto - all from North York - were the last to bow out in the Aug. 28/29 semifinal round, including:

* U-15 boys, tier two: North York Armour lost 2-0 to Burlington Falcons at Esther Shiner Stadium;

* U-17 boys, tier one: North York Spartacus lost 4-1 to Ajax Gunners at Esther Shiner Stadium;

* U-17 boys, tier two: North York Hearts Azzurri lost 1-0 to Whitby Iroquois at Lions Park, Brantford.

And in the men's semifinals, Toronto Blackstar FC lost 1-0 to A.E.K. London FC at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
