Jonathan de Guzman won't have to search very far for information on Spain's La Liga, which the 22 year old has just joined, becoming only the second Canadian ever to do so.
The first was his 28-year-old older brother Julian de Guzman who played for Deportivo La Coruna prior to joining Toronto FC last year as their designated player.Jonathan, this week, signed with Real Mallorca after spending his entire premier and youth career in Rotterdam with Feyenoord.Jonathan actually became a citizen of the Netherlands and suited up for the Dutch team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics (the Olympics feature U23 teams).Having not had an official cap with the Dutch senior side, however, he is still eligible to join his brother on the Canadian team.Jonathan was a highly touted teen, but has been hampered over the past two years by knee injuries.Jonathan scored 23 goals in 109 appearances for Feyenoord. Both brothers played their youth soccer for the North Scarborough Soccer Club where their father, Bobby de Guzman, coached and where Julian picked up an Ontario Cup championship.
