Canadian men's wheelchair basketball team lose to Italy

Best hope is now a fifth place finish

The Canadian Men's Wheelchair basketball team had their second loss at the 2010 World Wheelchair Basketball championships, and it knocked them out of the quarterfinals.

Scarborough natives Abdi Fatah Dini and Adam Lancia are members of the team competing in Birmingham, England.

The Canadian team were knocked out by Italy 63-47 in the quarterfinals. Canada's record is four wins and two losses.

"There were times when we looked like we were building momentum and ready to mount a comeback," said Team Canada men's head coach Jerry Tonello in a press release.

"We had our opportunities, but for whatever reason we just couldn't seem to overcome the 10 point spread. They were making their shots and proved to be very deadly. We needed the same type of performance from our players. Unfortunately, today we didn't get it."

Both the Canadian men's and women's teams are defending champions. The Canadian women's team are advancing to the semifinalss.

The best the men's team can finish is fifth place.

The men play Great Britain on Thursday, July 15.

The championships wraps up on Saturday, July 17.
