Scarborough's Stewart is NHL's star of the week

Hot start after Olympic break

Sidney Crosby may have been the hockey story of the Winter Olympics, but the story of the week after may just have been Scarborough's Chris Stewart.

The Scarborough native, who once gave up hockey to concentrate on football at West Hill Collegiate, was named the NHL's first star of the week on Monday, March 9.

Second and third stars for the week went to Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay) and Bryan McCabe (Florida), respectively.

Stewart definitely came back fully rested from the Olympic break, scoring five goals and four assists in four games last week.

That vaulted him into second place in scoring on the Colorado Avalanche (and 44th in the NHL) with 51 points (24 goals and 27 assists) in 60 games.

Here's Stewart's output over the four-game stretch.

Colorado 7, St. Louis 3 (March 6): three goals, one assist (including a successful penalty shot;

Pheonix 3, Colorado 1 (March 4): no points;

Colorado 4, Anaheim 3 (March 3): one goal, two assists;

Detroit 3, Colorado 2 (March 1): one goal, one assist.

Stewart will next lace up with the Avalanche Tuesday, March 9, against the visiting Vancouver Canucks.
