Learn about indoor cricket at Malvern Community Centre

If you thought cricket was strictly an outdoor sport, then head over to Malvern Community Centre gym on March 20 and 21 to see the sport played indoors.

The Victoria Park Cricket Club is hosting the indoor tournament to give youth the opportunity to play.

"We want to get people interested in cricket and get youth interested in doing something during the winter months," said Richard Ramlall, president of the Victoria Park Cricket Club. "We hope it will last until the summer."

Some modifications are made to play the sport indoors.

"We play six aside instead of 11," Ramlall said. "We play a limited number of overs to keep the game within two hours."

Games can typically last up to eight hours, he added.

A different ball is also used indoors, which is softer than the hard outdoor balls.

"We don't want to damage the floors," Ramlall said. "We have indoor balls and they're specially for indoors."

The tournament will feature eight teams of players aged 14 to 19.

Games are played between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with official umpires.

Everyone is welcome to watch the tournament. Admission is free.

Malvern Community Centre is at 30 Sewells Rd.

For more information call Ramlall at 416-439-0214.
