Medal hopes dashed for Cabbagetowner

Though hopes were high that snowboarder Michael Lambert would earn a podium finish in Vancouver, an Olympic medal was not in the cards for the Cabbagetown resident.

Lambert was a strong medal hopeful in the Parallel Giant Slalom, combining strong technical skills with a newfound inner peace through meditation.

The fourth-ranked snowboarder in the world in his discipline, Lambert managed a sixth-place finish in the qualifying round on Saturday, Feb. 27, with a combined time of 1:17.81 in his two runs.

In a tough field, however, he was knocked out in the next round, failing to advance to the quarter-final round.

Fellow Team Canada snowboarder - and Lambert's snowboarding idol - Jasey-Jay Anderson took the gold.
