The North York Storm atom girls won gold at the 16th annual Durham West Lightning hockey tournament held in Pickering last month.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, North York managed to make a comeback with a final score of 2-1 against the Oakville Hornets in the championship game.North York player Lochlahn March tied the game early in the final frame. Rachael Walker then scored with only 4:24 left.In a previous game in the tournament North York won 3-0 over the Durham West Lightning. Julia Williams, Alyssa Colavecchia and Ashley Almeida scored, while Jennifer Hearn posted the shutout.North York also won 5-1 over the Hamilton Hawks with a hat-trick by Colavecchia, while Walker and Williams scored a goal each.In the semifinal game, North York faced the Hamilton Hawks again. North York won with a 9-1 victory securing a spot in the championship game. Goal scorers included Colavecchia with four, Almeida with two and Walker, Williams and Holmes with one each.
