For thousands of years the tradition of Okinawan karate has been used to discipline the body and mind, as well as kick butt when put in the right situation.
On Saturday, March 6, the York Academy of Martial Arts is hosting a Karate Super Show at Vaughan Road Academy, 529 Vaughan Rd., to celebrate its 20-year history in the Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue West community.
The festivities will kick-off with skill and weapon demonstrations from martial artists of all skill and age levels. After that, there will be a black belt grading presentation and video clips of the club's history.
After everyone has worked up an appetite, Monja Chiara from CakeStar will be serving up edible art in the form of a karate-themed cake.
This event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and is open to the general public. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children and $50 for families, and must be purchased in advance by calling the school at 416-256-7463.
