Two members of the East York Martial Arts will be competing at the 2010 Karate National Championships being held at the Sheraton Hotel, 123 Queen St. W., in downtown Toronto from March 19 to 21.

Elliot Ritter and Tushara Veerella qualified by placing first or second in three provincial tournaments leading up to the nationals.

Competitors receive 50 points for first place, 25 points for second and 12.5 for third and fourth.

Ritter received 125 points to secure a spot, while Veerella got 50 points.

"I believe they have a great chance to medial at the nationals because Ontario and Quebec have the best fighters in the country," said their coach and owner of EYMA Don Ritter and father of Elliot. "If you can secure a spot at the nationals by being selected through the Ontario tournaments then your chances are very high to win the nationals."
