Come next week, Scarborough resident Shevelle Stewart will be making the transition from golden arches to Olympic gold, fingers crossed of course.
Stewart, 19, who has worked at McDonald's for the past two-and-a-half years, was selected by the company to travel to Vancouver and work at restaurants in the athletes villages where she will get the chance to meet the world's top athletes.
Stewart, who moved to Canada from Jamaica only five years ago, has mixed feelings about travelling outside the province for the first time since she arrived here,
"It feels great but its a bit scary," she said, adding that she is looking forward to meeting a lot of new people. "But overall I'm really excited."
Stewart says she was selected by her manager for her hard work and dedication. Stewart, who will also be studying criminology at Ryerson University next fall, is humbled by the opportunity.
"To be chosen for this is amazing."
Stewart says she is looking forward to watching a variety of events and she hopes this experience will help her warm up to some of the sports she isn't too familiar with..
"I think Canada will do good this time around," she said. "From what I've heard, we will win gold for hockey."
Taking a moment to smile - something she is known for at the Warden and Eglinton McDonald's location where she works - she admitted to not being a hockey fan, but said "I think that might change once I get there."
