Students can have a blast at school

Softball could be making a hit at elementary schools with a new, free kit that is being introduced by Softball Ontario.

A Try Softball Kit contains a blastball game, a blastball manual, a learn to play manual, and pencils and activity books for students.

The program has been running for about seven years.

Blastball is similar to T-ball except it's more physically active. The bat and ball are made of a soft foam material which is child-safe and baseball gloves are not required.

There is no cost to participate in the softball program, but teachers are required to fill out a feedback questionnaire upon completion.

Kits are available on first-come, first-serve basis to teachers, principals and parent groups.

So far Morrish Public School, Chartland Junior Public School, Cliffside Public School in Scarborough, Hollywood Public School and Forest Manor Public School in North York, and St. Clements Catholic School in Etobicoke have signed up to participate in the program this year.
