Now comes the hard part for eight Toronto arenas that were entered in CBC's annual Hockeyville competition.
Entering a favourite arena was relatively simple - all one had to do was submit a photo and a few words to go along with it. That wrapped up at the end of January. And many took the time to submit their home arena - 227 across Canada, including 92 in Ontario and eight in Toronto. The Toronto arenas include Chesswood, Don Montgomery, East York Memorial, Lambton, North Toronto and Lakeshore Lions (now known as the Mastercard Centre). Also entered were High Park arena, which is outdoors (and once hosted the Leafs annual outdoor practice) and J Memorial Arena, of which we're not sure which arena the nominator was referring to (Hockeyville had yet to get back to us).Getting into the next round is a daunting task with the 'in-house panel' selecting only 15 entries from across the country, including only three from a specific region (in our case, Ontario), and no more than one, if any, from a specific community (in our case Toronto).Supporters can go online and help make the case for one of the listed arenas. The prize package is decent - $100,000 for arena upgrades and an NHL pre-season game (assuming the arena meets minimum conditions - otherwise it would be held at the nearest arena that is suitable). The Top 15 will be showcased on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada on March 3 and voting will begin the next day.Check out the competition at krafthockeyville.cbc.ca/
