Original six Toronto/Boston match-up in Scarborough

This weekend's hockey schedule features an original-six, mini two game series between Toronto and Boston - with one of the games scheduled for Scarborough.

We're not talking the National Hockey League, of course, but the top women's league in the world - the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL).

The Toronto Furies are hosting the Boston Blades in the second game of the two-game stand Sunday, Feb. 12, at 11:45 a.m. at Canlan Ice Sports Scarborough (rink one), 159 Dynamic Dr.

The opening game is slated at Toronto's usual home arena, George Bell Arena in west Toronto, on Saturday, 8 p.m.

The CWHL is stocked with Olympians, and the Toronto Furies marquee player is defenceman Tessa Bonhomme who helped Canada to a gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

She also showed her versatility this past fall by winning CBC's Battle of the Blades along with partner David Pelletier.

Scarborough's Cherie Piper, who has been on Canada's last three Olympic gold medal hockey teams, also laces up in the CWHL, but for her long-time Brampton Thunder team where she currently sits in second in team scoring (11 goals and 13 assists in 15 games) behind fellow Olympic gold medalist Gillian Apps (11 goals, 14 assists in 17 games).
