You can catch Tessa Bonhomme in a battle of the blades Saturday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ricoh Centre.
And, no, not the figure skating battle - Canada's unique version of Dancing with the Stars on CBC, which Bonhomme recently won with partner David Pelletier - but the hockey version, pitting Bonhomme's Toronto Furies against Brampton in Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) action. The Toronto squad usually plays out of George Bell Arena, a little further west, but this Saturday's game marks a special Canadian Women's Hockey Day promotion. The CWHL match will follow the Toronto Marlies American Hockey League (AHL) game against the Houston Aeros beginning at 3 p.m.Having suited up for Canada's most recent Olympic gold medal winning team in Vancouver in 2010, Bonhomme, a defender, is the Furies marquee player - and that was before she did so spectacularly on the Battle of the Blades. But Toronto also sports current national team member forward Jess Scanzano, as well as former Canadian Olympic gold medal winning Canadian goalie Sami Jo Small.Brampton will bring in their own crew of Olympic gold medalists, including Gillian Apps, Jayna Hefford and Cherie Piper. The league, which also has teams in Burlington, Montreal, Boston and Calgary, boasts numerous Olympians - past, present and future - from Canada and around the world. The Furies are back at George Bell Arena, 215 Ryding Ave., in The Junction, the following weekend, hosting a pair of games against Boston Saturday, Dec. 10, 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 11, 4:30 p.m.For more info visit http://cwhl.ca
