Humberside Collegiate runner wins provincial cross country gold

The provincial high school cross country championships were held Saturday, Nov. 5, at Green's Creek Conservation Area in Ottawa, and Toronto schools hit the podium.

Individually, there was only one medal, but it was a good one - gold - with Mackenzie Lemieux of Humberside Collegiate winning the junior girls race in 13:53.2 (ahead of Olivia Little from Windsor's Vincent Massey in a time of 14:30.3).

The closest to the podium after that was a fifth place finish in junior boys by Michael Petta of Northern Secondary.

Teamwise, the Birchmount Park boys won boys overall title while Humberside and Leaside finished second and third, respectively, for the girls.

The athletes race in three categories - midget, junior and senior (male and female) - and Toronto schools hit the podium with three team bronze medals - Birchmount Park CI in junior boys, Leaside High School in junior girls and Humberside Collegiate in midget girls.
