Variety Village wheelchair basketball team earns silver

The Variety Village wheelchair basketball team brought home silver from the 2010 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Open Championships in New Westminster, British Columbia on Sunday, April 5.
Variety Village led by as much as 10 points in the first half, but the team fell short with a final score of 58-52 against the Douglas College Lions of BC.
Variety Village's tournament all star Dayton Sopha finished the game with 18 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists. Scarborough's Abdi Fatah Dini along with Michael Broughton finished second in team scoring with 12 points apiece.
Les Gladiateurs de Laval won bronze.
The top seven competitive wheelchair basketball teams were at the CWBL Open Finals from April 2 to 4.
The tournament featured elite players from across the country including past, present and future members of the Canadian men's and women's national teams. They will be competing for gold medals at the 2010 World Championships in July in Birmingham, Great Britain.
