Women’s Field Hockey OSG
The GTA women’s under 16 field hockey team has moved into the gold medal round after a successful semifinal match in the three-day Ontario Summer Games tournament.
“I think we played really well. We really knew we wanted to win gold so we pushed as hard as we can to the end,” said Leesa Girlings 15, of Ajax who scored two goals in the match.
On Saturday, Aug. 18, the girls came up against the East team, taking them 6-0.
Shannon Pereira 16, of Scarborough also scored two goals and is “going for gold again” in her third time attending the Ontario Summer Games for women’s field hockey. She has yet to get the gold.
The GTA will come up against Central West Sunday, Aug. 19, at 1:45 p.m.
Meanwhile, the East team will head into the bronze medal match being played at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, against the South.
Captain of team East, Sarah Tourangeau, of Westboro in Ottawa, was disappointed with the loss, but has set her sights on getting a medal.
“So we’re going onto the bronze medal game – so we’re hoping to take bronze home, which would be a huge accomplishment and definitely, definitely something we’re going to push as hard as we can for,” she said.
The tournament is being held at Toronto’s Lamport Stadium.
