Story of Cambodian atrocities sparks reader to act

After reading a moving article by writer Joanna Lavoie I was inspired. I decided that I could help this man and his mission.

I am the director of The Baila Boogaloo Dance Company, a Latin dance school and performance troupe in downtown Toronto. We teach Latin dance classes at our studio location weeknights and hold workshops regularly.

With the help of my instructors, I have decided to convert one of our most popular workshops, a salsa class for men and women, into a fundraiser for the Aid for Victims of Cambodian Landmines (AFVCLM) charity that you featured in last week's edition.

This fundraising workshop will be held tonight (March 20) from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at our studio, DLM Dance and Entertainment, 1610 Bloor St. W. All of the funds raised will be donated to AFVCLM. We expect a minimum of 100 students and will be asking for a minimum $5 donation instead of a fee. We'll also be offering some great door prizes to attendees. I have been in touch with several organizations and retailers and so far we've received a certificate for spa services, sporting events, restaurant vouchers as well as chiropractic and personal training certificates.

The dance company will also be donating gift certificates for dance lessons.
