Scarborough well represented in TDSB girls volleyball finals

February 23, 2010

Scarborough has again proven to be the power in girls volleyball.

Of the four teams competing in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) 4A and 3A finals, on tap Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Humber College, three are from the Scarborough-based east division.

The 4A all-Scarborough final is between Woburn and Birchmount Park who each won their city semifinals on Monday, Feb. 22, respectively, Woburn 3-0 over Etobicoke, Birchmount Park 3-1 over Northern.

Birchmount Park is the defending Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) silver medalist.

Amazingly, though, Sir Oliver Mowat is actually the east champ and they're playing the 3A final against Lawrence Park, after winning their Monday semifinal 3-0 over Humberside, while Lawrence Park defeated William Lyon Mackenzie 3-0.

Sir Oliver Mowat are also the defending 3A OFSAA champs.

This year, the three Scarborough powerhouses finished one-two-three in the east division: Mowat 9-0; Woburn 8-1; and Birchmount Park 7-2.

Mowat went on to win the east playoff over Woburn.

The 1/2A final pits George Henry against Richview.

The junior final pits Martingrove against Malvern.

The TDSB girls volleyball championship schedule for Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Humber College is, for junior, I/2A, 3A and 4A, respectively, 9:30, 11, 1 and 3.

NOTE: The levels (4A, 3A, 2A, 1A) refer to the competitive divisions, which are determined according to school population size with one caveat that smaller schools can choose to compete at any higher level.
