Senator's aide arrested and charged

Toronto police have arrested and charged one of Senator Art Eggleton's senior staff members for the violent sexual assault of an adult woman earlier this month.

Robert Meinzer, 38, was apprehended at a Niagara Street address Monday morning. Police also searched his south Ottawa home this week.

Meinzer now faces nine charges including break and enter, anal intercourse, forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, chocking and extortion.He was released on $25,000 bail Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Meinzer has been suspended without pay until the matter gets resolved.
