You need consent

Dear Editor:
Re: The letter “Not His Job,” about the Crown’s withdrawal of a murder charge (May 16-17).
By withdrawing the charge against the accused, what (Crown Attorney Steve) Sherriff has done is send a message to everyone in Ontario, be they gay or straight, that if you wish to have sex with someone, then it is necessary to obtain their informed consent.
Not obtaining that consent might result in unfortunate, unpremeditated and unintended consequences for the sexual assailant.
