A 48-year-old woman was struck and killed by a van Tuesday, Nov. 24 while crossing Warden Avenue south of St. Clair Avenue.
Police said the woman got off a TTC bus on the northwest corner of Warden and Cataraqui Crescent around 6:30 a.m. When the bus left, the pedestrian tried to cross to the east side of Warden but was hit by a southbound white cargo van that was travelling in the passing lane.
"She was at the time wearing dark clothing and headphones," said Sgt. Tim Burrows of the traffic services unit.
"It was dark. It was wet. There was only street lighting."
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:42 a.m.
The van driver, a man in his 50s, developed chest pain and was taken to hospital.
Police closed Warden for more than three hours as they investigated.
