All areas of the city require services

To the editor:

Regarding the new arena that may be built in the port lands.

The residents outside central downtown core are getting the shaft again. Everything must be downtown.

Proponents for this ice rink in the port lands suggested people outside the downtown core can use public transit get there, forgetting hockey players have a lot of heavy equipment and are unlikely to use it.

Why not spread the rinks around the other former cities so we do not have to travel 25 kilometres to get to the new arena?

The Stephen Leacock rink was broken years ago and they turned it into an indoor sports facility rather than fix the ice. I don't even like hockey, but when I see a screw-up in the making, I want to protest.

Repair the facilities we already have and remember there is life outside the old City of Toronto limits. We also pay taxes.
