On July 9, 2010, in the evening around 9 p.m., I was walking my dog, a chihuahua, along with my fiancée down the street where I live, crossing Dundas Street and onto Poplar Avenue.
It is one of our regular walks and the day was no different from any other. Suddenly two ferocious dogs appeared and they came charging for my little dog. In the hope of saving my pet, I carried him high up trying to fend the dogs off. The two dogs then attacked me, going for my arms, side and legs inflicting deep cuts. While this was going on, a passerby in his car saw this and came to my rescue. Opening his car doors he shouted at me to jump in. This did not deter these animals and they chased the car around a block, even running down Dundas Street. My fiancée met us around the next block then jumped into the car too.The driver of the car took me to Trillium Hospital. The time was about 9:30 p.m. when my wounds were tended to. I was bitten all over -- my arm, body and legs were patched up with a total of 10 stitches/staples. I was at the hospital until 3:30 a.m. Later on I called the police who sent an officer by at 11 a.m. to take down a report.I am very upset about this. The safety of people living in an urban neighbourhood is paramount. Unruly drivers, unsafe vehicles and many other hazards living in a city, but to be attacked by guard dogs on public property is not something any person should be subjected to. I am a salesperson working on commission. As such, until I am 100 per cent fit and presentable, it would not be possible to earn my livelihood. While my employer is sympathetic with my situation there is little they can do to support me financially. I intend to pursue this issue to the fullest extent that the legal system would enable me to seek justice. Most importantly the safety of others is at stake and it could have well been a little child who may have been attacked. Xi Liu (Mike)
