Inquiry adds injury to insult

To the editor:

Re: 'Public must demand inquiry into police actions during G20 violence,' City Views, July 2.

Columnist David Nickle wants an inquiry concerning the police and the G20 Summit. I say that is adding insult to injury to ask taxpayers, already charged an insane $1.2 billion, to pay $40 million for an inquiry.

An inquiry will likely produce no clear-cut result, other than another windfall for lawyers, inquiry staff and inquiry chairperson, and another disaster for taxpayers.

Instead, the police should be asked, if they are not doing so already, to investigate fully the black-clad thugs to find out who paid or incited them to travel to Toronto to create chaos.

And let us never have another G20 or similar meeting in Toronto.

These meetings accomplish nothing and in any case are readily held via videoconferencing.
