Resident not interested in running for council position

To the editor:

'Will Mammoliti stick with mayoral bid?,' Friday File, Feb. 26.

My name is Edith George and I have lived in Ward 7 for more than 40 years.

While reading Lisa Queen's article, I was surprised and delighted to be mentioned by Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti as a possible candidate in the councillors' race in Ward 7.

It is an honourable position to represent people that elect and trust you to put their needs. It is a decision that should be thought through in a conscientious manner before making a commitment to run in a political arena against other hopefuls in Ward 7.

On Jan. 18, Nick Di Nizio registered at Toronto City Hall to run for the councillor's seat that Mammoliti has appeared to have left in an attempt to reach higher political aspirations as Mayor of Toronto.

I was Di Nizio's first supporter and handed him a cheque for the maximum personal donation allotted at the municipal election level for councillors.

We live in serious times and we need serious people representing us, not candidates who brag they are "outrageous".

Edith George
