Entitlement displayed in recent letter

To the editor:

Re: 'Parking enforcement officer out of line,' Letters, Feb. 26.

I was astounded at the sense of entitlement displayed by David Slotnick in his response to getting a ticket for illegal parking.

Despite a plethora of signs in the area prohibiting parking, stopping and idling, he shouted at the enforcement officer and pretended he was going to park his car even though he admits he had already turned off the engine.

Why should he feel some suburbanite privilege to park where he wants and then abuse a public servant for doing her job? Why would he describe her actions as "sneak" when this block is a wide open street with few doorways or stores for her to hide? By what convoluted right-wing political thinking can he link his disregard for traffic laws with the performance of Mayor David Miller?

If he can afford to go all the way downtown to buy expensive Olympic clothing, which is available at our local shopping malls with free parking, why didn't he drive right into the Bay's parking garage and save himself $60?

Denis McKee

Ed. note: The letter writer recently advised The Mirror his ticket was withdrawn.
