Feeding geese dangerous to birds
To the editor:Re: Snack Time, page 1 photo, Jan. 22It would be really great if the Villager could help promote responsible use of High Park. The front page shows two children feeding crackers to Canada Geese. People should refrain from feeding any of the wildlife anything. Birds in particular are not equipped to digest bread and crackers which can turn pasty in their gizzards causing digestive upset and death.I am already aware that many people in this neighbourhood who use the park are more concerned with their own pleasure rather than the actual park itself, but unfortunately conserving this very rare habitat will require people to think about something other than themselves or their dogs or their families. Just because feeding birds and biking on nature trails and unleashing your dog makes you and your children and your dog happy, it doesn't mean it is good for the environment.Chris Damdar
