Please don't feed the geese

I was disturbed to see the picture of children feeding Canada Geese on your cover page.

These birds are wildlife and therefore it is expressly forbidden by Toronto municipal code to feed them. They are also potentially aggressive, dangerous birds, able to give a good bite.

As well, the City of Toronto has been running a campaign against such feeding in order to keep the parks and beaches clean. One of the city's tactics is to advise that one Canada Goose can poop 1 kg per day.

A walk in the park will demonstrate this, where destroyed lawns and green pellets abound. It's sad to see that a community newspaper does not support the initiative of the city to make the parks pleasant and healthy for humans by not feeding the Canada Geese.
