Christmas lights brighten one's day

Re: 'Turn off Christmas lights,' Letters, Jan. 22. My answer to letter writer Alexa Palmer is a resounding 'no' to turning off my Christmas lights and here is why. January and February are those dark winter months when the cheery lights of Christmas that still shine serve to brighten the evening and the morning of people making their way to the streetcar stop.I love seeing those lights still shining and I am happy that most of my neighbors obviously feel the same way. With today's LED lights the amount of electricity burned is minimal and is easily outweighed by brightening somebody's morning or evening.Kevin Whelan
