Queensway Canadiens had female captain once before: reader

Re: 'Mimico hockey star breaks through 57-year tradition,' News, Feb. 9The purpose for this letter is to advise that the information you received for your article of the female captain of the Queensway Canadiens is quite inaccurate. My name is Laura Spadafora and I am currently 24 years old, however from the time I was four years old until I was 14, I was a player for the Queensway Canadiens. During my years I played for Queensway, I developed into a pretty decent player, as exemplified by the fact that for a couple years I was the captain of my house league team. In addition to this, I think I was probably also the first girl to make it on the rep team, and I also excelled so much that they gave me the position of assistant captain on the rep team. During the time I was playing there, there were not many female players, and it seems as though this may not have changed. I am proud of Elisabeth Hara who achieved the same status of captain as I did. The claim that she was the first female in 57 years of the association's history is completely false. This basic fact can be checked in the association's records. I think it is important to set the record straight. Laura Spadafora
