Parents need to teach their children right from wrong

To the editor,

Re: 'Motorists should look out for pedestrians,' Letters, Jan. 27.

At first glance reading W.E.Brown's response to the editorial, I thought his letter was an attempt at sarcasm. Continuing to read, I came to the conclusion this cannot be a responsible parent.

Yes, I agree children are incapable to make decisions, that's a fact.

As responsible parents, it is our duty to teach them right from wrong, good from bad.

Society does not place responsibility solely on one individual. Responsible decision-making is a slow process that begins at an early age. Responsible decision-making evolves with age and life experience. As parents, it becomes our responsibility to teach and guide children to slowly become active participants in their decision-making so that, hopefully, they can grow up adults to make their own intelligent decision choices.

Society does not place the problems of the world on any child's shoulders, as suggested by the reader.

We are also led to believe that children and adults do not need to be careful around busy roads; they can cross wherever and whenever they please.

So much for Elmer The Safety Elephant.
